Tracks and Trails update
The implementation of the Tracks and Trails strategy is continuing to progress well with a number of new tracks being opened in Kate Reed NRA over the past few months as well as two new tracks being completed and opened this week. Parks and Wildlife staff have also begun erecting new trail heads around Kate Reed and Trevallyn as a means for riders and walkers to identify tracks, their level of difficulty and whether the tracks or trails are shared use or mountain biker or preferred.
While an extensive network of new tracks and trails have been mapped and marked in Trevallyn NRA, all works to the area are currently on hold with Aboriginal Site Assessments needing to be completed before any track work can commence.
The track building team are currently working on the southern side of Kate Reed, near the Bunnings connector, rerouting and constructing a new track that will head down towards the old creek bed. There will be working bees scheduled over the next few weeks in order to cap the track ready for opening.
The trail building team are continually frustrated by the number of riders who are failing to obey the track closure signs or who are riding on tracks under construction while there is excavation machinery in progress. While this practice is not only dangerous it also delays the opening of the tracks under construction.
Due to the continual disregard for the track closure and construction signs, the LMBC committee has decided that any riders identified as riding these closed trails will be banned from all club races for a period of three months.
